Nikki North had always been a hard worker. She took pride in her job and always went above and beyond to make sure everything was done to perfection. Today was no different. She had been at work since six in the morning, and it was now nearly six in the evening. She was exhausted, but she knew she still had a few more hours of work ahead of her.

Just as she was about to dive back into her work, she heard a knock at the door. She looked up to see Andre Stone, the company’s CEO, standing in the doorway.

‘Nikki, do you have a moment?’ he asked.

She nodded, saving her work and standing up to greet him. ‘Of course, Mr. Stone. What can I do for you?’

‘I just wanted to check in and see how things are going,’ he said, taking a seat in the chair across from her desk. ‘I know you’ve been here for a long time today.’

‘It’s no problem, I’m happy to put in the extra hours if it means getting the job done,’ Nikki replied.

Mr. Stone nodded approvingly. ‘That’s exactly the kind of attitude I like to see. But even the most dedicated employees need to take a break every now and then. Why don’t you finish up for the day and start fresh tomorrow?’

Nikki hesitated. She had so much work to do, and she didn’t want to fall behind. But Mr. Stone was insistent, and she knew he only had her best interests at heart.

‘Alright, if you insist,’ she said, saving her work one last time before shutting down her computer.

As she gathered her things, Mr. Stone stood up and walked over to the window, looking out at the bustling city below. ‘You know, Nikki, I’ve been watching your progress here at the company, and I have to say, I’m impressed. You have a real talent for what you do.’

Nikki blushed at the compliment. ‘Thank you, Mr. Stone. I really appreciate that.’

‘You should,’ he said, turning to face her. ‘You have a bright future ahead of you here, if you’re willing to put in the work.’

‘I am,’ Nikki said, her eyes shining with determination. ‘I’ll do whatever it takes to succeed.’

‘I have no doubt about that,’ Mr. Stone said, smiling. ‘But remember, even the most successful people need to take a break every now and then. Don’t burn yourself out, Nikki. You’re too valuable to the company for that.’

Nikki nodded, taking his words to heart. She gathered her things and followed Mr. Stone out of the office, feeling a sense of gratitude and respect for him that she had never felt before.

As she walked to the elevator, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement for what the future held. She knew that with hard work and determination, she could achieve anything she set her mind to.

The elevator doors opened, and Nikki stepped inside, still lost in thought. She didn’t notice the man standing in the corner until the doors closed behind her.

It was Andre Stone.

‘Mr. Stone, what are you doing here?’ Nikki asked, surprised.

‘I could ask you the same thing,’ he said, with a twinkle in his eye. ‘But I have a feeling I know the answer. You’re on your way home, aren’t you?’

Nikki nodded. ‘Yes, I am. I have a lot of work to catch up on, and I figured I might as well get a head start.’

A Long Days Work Transfixed

Mr. Stone shook his head. ‘That’s not what I meant. I meant, you’re on your way home to rest and recharge. You’re not going to spend the entire night working, are you?’

Nikki hesitated, unsure of how to answer. She didn’t want to disappoint Mr. Stone, but she also didn’t want to lie to him.

‘I was planning on it,’ she admitted.

Mr. Stone nodded, as if he had expected as much. ‘Nikki, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. The most successful people in the world don’t got to the top by working themselves to death. They got there by taking care of themselves, both physically and mentally. They know when to push themselves, and when to step back and recharge.’

Nikki listened, her mind racing. She had never thought of it that way before.

‘I know it’s hard, especially when you’re as driven as you are,’ Mr. Stone continued. ‘But trust me, you’ll be a lot more productive if you give yourself the chance to rest and recharge. And who knows, you might even enjoy yourself along the way.’

The elevator doors opened, and Nikki stepped out, still deep in thought. She turned to say goodbye to Mr. Stone, but he was already gone.

As she walked to her car, Nikki realized that Mr. Stone was right. She had been so focused on her work that she had forgotten to take care of herself. She made a mental note to make sure she took some time for herself, even if it was just a few minutes each day.

As she drove home, Nikki couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement for what the future held. She knew that with hard work and determination, she could achieve anything she set her mind to. And now, she had a new secret weapon – the knowledge that taking care of herself was just as important as working hard.
